Our Experience.

Our Doctors have years of experience specializing in Women’s Health. Before starting in private practice Dr. Kruse rotated around Twin Cities hospitals including the Mother & Baby units at Abbott Northwestern Hospital and M Health Fairview University of Minnesota Medical Center; Dr. Guan at the First Affiliated Hospital of Tianjin University of TCM in Tianjin, China.

Treating the root cause.

We often see women come into our clinic overwhelmed by what seems like a host of random and complex issues: irregular periods, pain in the lower abdomen, headaches, fatigue, mood swings, infertility, etc. They leave our clinic feeling relieved, equipped with the knowledge that in Traditional Chinese Medicine all of these symptoms often boil down to a few root patterns such as deficiency of qi, yin, and/or yang, or stagnation of blood, cold, or damp in the womb. We treat the the branch of the problem so that patients experience immediate relief of some of their symptoms as well as the root energetic imbalance for holistic and lasting results. Keep reading below to learn more about the root causes of some of the most common Women’s Health conditions that we see.

Our treatment style.

Your initial intake and treatment will last about an hour and a half as your Doctor will do a detailed intake to get a full picture of your bodily and energetic systems. We will then diagnose your root energetic disharmony and choose acupuncture points geared at correcting this disharmony. There will likely be local points chosen on the abdomen to bring oxygen, nutrients, and blood flow to your reproductive organs while regulating your body’s hormonal and nervous systems. We will also choose distal points along the energetic meridians of your body that will communicate with each other to restore harmony in the body, spirit, and mind. Women’s Health disorders often also benefit from the addition of herbal medicine, of which both of our doctors are classically trained experts.

Your treatment plan.

The frequency and duration of treatments is different for each condition and each individual patient.

For gynecological disorders the most typical course of treatment starts at 1x/week for about 5 weeks. During this time period you should notice some, if not significant, changes in your symptoms. From that point, appointments will be spaced out based upon progress. If you are doing a bit better, we may ask you to return in two weeks, if you are doing excellent we may switch you to 1x/month maintenance appointments.

We like to support the women in our clinic throughout every step of the child bearing process, starting with conception. If you are coming in for fertility treatments, the most ideal course is to continue appointments 1x/week until pregnancy is achieved. If this is not feasible for you, we will work with you to choose the most ideal times in your monthly cycle to come in for treatment.

Pregnant patients may come more often during their first trimester if they have a history of miscarriage or fragile pregnancy or if they are experiencing symptoms such as nausea or insomnia. Otherwise pregnant patients typically come in about 1x/month for general pregnancy support, more frequent appointments can always be added if experiencing discomfort or pain as the baby grows. Once their baby is born, many mother’s experience ailments such as insomnia, depression, hormonal changes, reduced lactation, and pain; during this time your doctor will be there to restore balance and to help Mom & Baby to thrive.

Dr. Kruse is an exceptional practitioner, she is the most thorough and thoughtful acupuncturist I have seen. I saw Dr. Kruse for an herbal consultation and she took the time to learn about my fertility journey including surgery for endometriosis and IUI, and more recently acupuncture alone. Based on my history she prescribed an herbal product that worked well for me, and fortunately I became pregnant after three months on this regimen! I am now 13 weeks pregnant and everything has been healthy and normal. I love sharing my experience with Traditional Chinese Medicine and Shen with my midwife team at my clinic. I feel so supported and cared for and I can’t thank Dr. Kruse enough for her professional and attentive care.
